Painting Has Been Our Trade for Nearly 40 Years
A Family Business Built on Doing Great Work
Shawn started painting with his brothers when he was about 14 years old and never really stopped. Over the years came the tools, the van, the side jobs and eventually Under The Sun Construction.
Today, the brother who first taught Shawn to paint is his foreman, and Shawn’s son has spent several years working in the business too. The company has grown, but the basic idea hasn’t changed: do good work, pay attention to the details and treat people honestly.
It’s an approach that has built much of Under The Sun Construction through referrals from homeowners and contractors who are comfortable putting Shawn’s name behind their own recommendation.
Our Employees. Our Work. Our Responsibility
Our Employees.
Our Work.
Our Responsibility
When you hire Under The Sun Construction, the painting isn’t handed off to an unknown subcontracting crew. Our painters are our employees, working under Shawn and his experienced foreman.
That means there’s accountability from the beginning of the project to the end. We know who’s working on your property, how the work is being done and what standard we expect.
You shouldn’t have to wonder who is showing up to work on your home.

What We Do

Exterior Painting in the Pacific Northwest
Painting Season Is Longer than You think
You don’t necessarily have to wait until summer to paint your home’s exterior.
Under The Sun Construction has been completing exterior projects throughout the year in the Pacific Northwest for years. The key isn’t the month on the calendar. It’s understanding temperature, moisture, drying time and what the weather is actually doing at your home.
Shawn watches conditions closely throughout an exterior project. If the surface isn’t ready or the weather could compromise the finish, the crew waits. If conditions are right, the work moves forward.
In fact, cooler weather can sometimes provide more working time than a hot summer afternoon when paint begins drying too quickly.
The goal isn’t to beat the weather. It’s to work with it so your paint job looks good and holds up.
We Don’t Just Paint. We Prep, Protect, and Clean Up.
1. We Walk Through the Project
We talk through what you’re having painted, what the job involves and what’s included before work begins.
2. We Prepare and Protect
Exterior work may include pressure washing, scraping, caulking, spot priming and masking. Indoors, we carefully mask and protect the areas around where we’re working.
3. We Do the Details
From removing outlet and switch plates rather than painting around them to properly preparing problem areas, the little things are part of doing the job right.
4. We Walk It With You
When the job is finished, we clean up our materials and walk the project with you to make sure everything has been completed to your satisfaction.
We clean up the job site at the end of every workday.

Details Matter
Better Products
We generally work with middle- to higher-grade paints from trusted manufacturers because application, durability and warranty matter more than simply choosing the cheapest can.
The Right Number of Coats
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Color changes, existing surfaces and the product being used all matter. We apply what the project actually needs to produce the right finish.
Work We Stand Behind
Shawn doesn’t hide behind the paint manufacturer if there’s a problem. Under The Sun Construction stands behind its workmanship and the finished job.
